| DCHS Copyright
and Use Information
All material on the Dakota County Historical (DCHS) Society World
Wide Web Pages is copyrighted by DCHS unless otherwise indicated.
It is for the personal use of students, scholars, and the public.
Copying or redistribution for commercial gain without written permission
of DCHS or the otherwise noted rights holder(s) is prohibited.
Copyright or other information about restrictions for historical
archived information may be hard to determine. Whenever possible,
the DCHS will provide information about copyright owner(s) and any
other restrictions in our records. DCHS provides such information
to help determine the appropriate use of an item, but securing the
legality of such use ultimately rests with the individual or group
seeking to use the item.
Images reproduced from the collections of DCHS are for viewing
and personal use only. Permission for commercial use or any publication,
manipulation, display or distribution is only granted by written
application to the Dakota County Historical Society. Permission
and license to use photographic reproductions is granted through
a properly formed, written request describing the intended use and
may involve a fee for commercial use.
Written Permission from DCHS: Conditions of Use
Credit must be given to the Dakota County Historical Society and
the creator of the work, if known.
DCHS will tell you what the proper form of the credit line should
be. Credit lines must appear with the image or on a credit page
indicating the page number and location on the page for each work.
Films, videotapes and slide shows may use a credit section at the
beginning or end to give credit to the Dakota County Historical
Society. For web site use, credit should appear either next to or
directly below the image with a link to the DCHS web site whenever
feasible.
Permission to reproduce, publish, broadcast or display a DCHS collection
photograph must be requested in writing. The request should include
the title, author, publishing year, name of publishing company or
organization responsible, and the catalog number, locator or negative
number of the work. Possession of a DCHS collection photograph does
not constitute permission to use it.
It is not unsual for DCHS to request that a copy of the publication
be donated to the Dakota County Historical Society Research Library
& Museum.
If the copyright is still in effect, the publisher must seek permission
from the creator of the work or his/her heirs. DCHS agrees to provide
the creator’s name, if known.
Permission is for one-time use only unless otherwise specified
in the grant of license. DCHS, unless otherwise stated, retains
all rights to the works and they must not be used for any purpose
other than those expressly granted in the written permission.
Photographs may be cropped to suit design and layout, but they
may not be altered or drawn upon so that they look in any way different
from the way they appear in the historical collection.
DCHS reserves the right to refuse grant of permission and/or providing
photographic reproduction services or permissions to publishers
and individuals who have not complied with our policies.
The Dakota County Historical Society reserves the right to decline
reproduction of fragile items or to decline, refuse, or rescind
premission for any use DCHS deems "inappropriate."
Commercial use (anything for-profit) must pay a fee in advance
of receiving written permission from DCHS.
Due to the Federal Copyright Law, Copy Services is not able to
make photographic prints of photographs from books published less
than 100 years ago.
