Possibly the largest site of historic significance in
Dakota County is the Gopher Ordnance Works in Rosemount.
Built during World War II to produce smokeless gun powder,
the plant occupied 11,500 acres of premium farmland. After
the War the land was turned over to the University of
Minnesota for use as an agricultural experiment station.
If you know of a local site in this area that you feel should be
acknowledged for its historic significance we'd love to hear about
it or help you to investigate and document the site. Please contact
